William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield

Devil Anse Hatfield

William Anderson “Devil Anse” Hatfield (1839-1921) was born and raised in Logan and was the leader of the Hatfield clan during the famous feud with the McCoys. A Southern sympathizer, Hatfield quickly joined the Confederacy during the Civil War and formed a Confederate militia, which he named “The Logan Wildcats.” He died in 1921 in Stirrat, Logan County from pneumonia at the age of 81.
