The exhibition is run by Governor Jim Justice, the West Virginia Department of Tourism and the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History (WVDACH). The Governor's Art Exhibit is showcased in the Capitol and runs January through December each year.
The exhibition was designed to showcase West Virginia students' creativity and the arts. Selected student's artwork will be used by the West Virginia Department of Tourism to create one-of-a-kind postcards to invite travelers to Almost Heaven. Awards will be given out to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in three categories: elementary school, middle school and high school. Winners will receive Blick Art Materials gift cards in the amounts of $100, $50, and $25.
For more information, contact Charles Morris, director of museums for the department, at (304) 558-0220 or Charles.W.Morris@wv.gov.
Governor Jim Justice, the West Virginia Department of Tourism and the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History invite you to participate in the annual Governor’s Art Exhibition. Designed to showcase student creativity and the arts, this year’s exhibition is a call for one-of-a-kind postcard designs illustrating ‘what does America's newest national park - the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve - mean to you?’ Selected postcard artwork will later be used by the Department of Tourism to personally invite travelers to Almost Heaven.
The exhibition is open to all West Virginia students grades K through 12. This is to include public, private and home school students. All entries must be hand delivered or mailed to the Culture Center and received no later than Dec. 6. You can access the entry form here. If there are any questions, please contact Charles Morris by phone (304)-558-0220, ext. 704 or via email
